Our Story Since 1974
Pets Warehouse began with a simple fascination — birds. In 1974, our founder Bob Sr., then a computer programmer, met a co-worker’s talking parrot. That encounter sparked a lifelong passion. Soon after, Bob and his wife Cathy adopted Herby, an Amazon parrot, and later welcomed “Little Grey,” a beloved companion who lived with them for over 30 years. What started as a hobby quickly became a life calling.
Fueled by that passion, Bob opened a small bird specialty store in Bay Shore, Long Island. That first store was the foundation of what would grow into Pets Warehouse — a trusted name in pet care for over five decades. Along the way, Bob operated two USDA-licensed bird quarantine facilities, supplying birds to retailers nationwide and deepening his expertise in ethical animal care.
Today, Pets Warehouse operates four retail locations across New York — in Lindenhurst, Selden, Shirley, and Bohemia (all independently operated) — along with a thriving online store offering more than 40,000 products for birds, fish, reptiles, dogs, cats, and other pets. Our site has been ranked #2 by Yahoo Internet Life Magazine and is among the most visited pet supply websites in the U.S., according to NPD Research.
From day one, our mission has remained simple: put the customer first. That means offering outstanding service, expert guidance, and a genuine love for animals. Whether you shop in-store or online, you’re working with a team that understands pets because we’re passionate pet owners ourselves. We're also committed to responsible pet retailing. Animal welfare is at the heart of what we do.
